Calais Close-Up: When Calais Built Ships for the World
The Annie H. Smith is shown tied to the dock at the foot of North Street, behind what is now the Calais Free Library. This is the only photograph of the ship known to be in the collection of the St. Croix Historical Society. The photo appears to have been taken shortly after her launch in 1876, before she left Calais for New York to begin her career carrying passengers and cargo around the world.
