Crosswalks are marked areas where pedestrians can safely cross a roadway.  By law in the State of Maine (Title 29A Subsection 2056,4), motorists must stop for pedestrians who are waiting in marked crosswalks.  This does not mean waiting near a crosswalk, such as, for instance, standing back on the sidewalk.
