Heart of Maine United Way is proud to support the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, a nationwide initiative organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Taking place this Saturday, May 9, this is the largest one-day food drive in the country, aimed at addressing food insecurity by collecting millions of pounds of food in a single day.
On Saturday, residents across Maine and the U.S. are encouraged to leave a bag of nonperishable, unexpired food by their mailbox. Letter carriers and volunteers will collect the donations and distribute them to local food pantries the same day.
“With rising costs, more families are facing tough choices between essentials like heating, healthcare, and food,” said Matt Donahue, President & CEO at Heart of Maine United Way. “This drive is a simple way for each of us to make a real difference locally. Every can, box, or jar goes directly to our neighbors in need.”
In 2025, more than 13,000 pounds of food were collected in the greater Bangor area alone — enough to provide over 10,000 meals to local households struggling to put food on the table. Join us in making this the most successful Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive yet.
