This past Monday, April 6, St. Croix Historical Society hosted a presentation on the Passamaquoddy people, exploring their lives and systems before European contact and the changes that followed under the Doctrine of Discovery. Coming up on Saturday, April 18, a valuable opportunity for local families will be available right here in Calais at the St. Croix Masonic Hall, 10 Calais Avenue. The Shriners Hospital will host a complimentary screening clinic for children up to age 18 from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteer clinicians will provide free pediatric evaluations, screening for conditions such as orthopedic issues, scoliosis, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, among others. All services are offered at no cost. Walk-ins are welcome.
Every Monday from April 20 to June 15, beginner Tai Chi for Heart Health course is offered in the rec. room at Calais Methodist Home, with both standing and sitting options available. The classes run from 10 to 11 a.m. The movements are slow, smooth, and continuous that can help with pain alleviation, stress reduction, increased strength, and more. Mark Thursday, April 30 on your calendar for McTeacher Night at McDonald’s. From 4 to 7 p.m., teachers will be joining the McDonald’s crew behind the counter and 20% of all sales will be donated to Calais Elementary School.
Pine Tree Legal is offering a free legal clinic on the first and third Wednesday of each month. These meetings are available from 10 a.m. to noon at the courthouse, 382 South Street. For more information, call 207-400-3248.
