Minimum Wage to Increase to $14.15 in January

Maine’s minimum wage will be going up 35 cents an hour on Jan. 1, according to the state’s Department of Labor -- nearly double what it was eight years ago when voters approved an hourly wage increase at the ballot box in 2016. 

Under that law, the minimum wage increased $1 per hour annually until it reached $12, and has since been indexed based on inflation data.

The Maine Forest Products Council (MFPC) recognized both Woodland Pulp and company employee Collin “Scott” Beal with awards at its annual ceremony on Sept. 18.

Woodland Pulp was recognized as the organization’s 2023 Outstanding Manufacturer. This award recognizes a manufacturer in the forest products industry that has demonstrated innovative approaches, value added strategies, community relations, environmental and safety awareness and growth strategies. The award was presented by Collin “Scott” Beal, a longtime employee and member of the MFPC executive committee.

PES Student Named Miss Aroostook Princess

 

Maddison Mae-Lynn White, 6, a first grader at Princeton Elementary School, was recently crowned Miss Aroostook Princess 2024.

Aside from one of her biggest passions - pageantry - Maddison enjoys spending her time volunteering in her community as much as possible and recently held a school-supply drive, collected “cookies for my heroes,” collected donations for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine, participated in local Veterans Day flag placements, and made valentines for her local nursing homes and veterans, among other activities.
