According to Spencer McCormick of the Calais Skatepark Committee, the skatepark has received some updates and needed renovations.  

With “a recent resurgence of energy and involvement,” McCormick explained, the Calais Skatepark Committee hosted a week-long work session earlier this month “to improve the ramps to create a more advantageous environment for new and inexperienced skaters and BMX bike riders.”

For one local man, getting area kids active in sports and other activities, while helping to minimize any financial burden to that child’s family, is top priority.  That’s why Ken Holmes wanted to donate to the Calais Recreation Department and reached out to Ian Pratt to also get involved.

Downeast Broadband Utility’s highly-anticipated fiber optic infrastructure is here, and many residents have been quick to sign on, with phone, internet and TV all now available on the world’s fastest network.  This fiber network not only vastly out-paces existing options, it does so at a far lower cost.

For many, the thought of a comet passing in the sky is exciting but not unexpected. After all, most of us grew up hearing about the famous Halley’s Comet as a commonplace idea and probably assume that comets are all discovered, and it’s just a matter of time before they come back around. However, like all of science, astronomy is developing as technology becomes more advanced, and our ability to explore the unknowns of space increases. New things are discovered all the time.

The Music on the Green Concert Series had people spread out through Triangle Park on Main Street. Last Tuesday’s concert was Patty Corms & the Fullertims. With the All Together Community BBQ happening this Saturday, there are events for all ages to enjoy, and for kids, and kids at heart, among the fun are some events allowing for a show of great creativity, and they are all offered for free.

It was certainly an unusual graduation ceremony and not what any of these seniors expected when they started their senior year Last fall. But despite the challenges and changes they have faced over the  course of this year these students handled the changes well and were able to get a ceremony they deserved. Calais Regional Hospital is pleased to welcome Physician Assistant Chandan Singh.   Chandan will be working as a Hospitalist on the Inpatient Care Unit.   He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Park University in Parkville, MO.  Chandan served in the US Army as a Healthcare specialist (68W).  Upon the conclusion of his military service he completed his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at CUNY School of Medicine in New York, NY.    Outside of emergency and inpatient care experience, Chandan has also worked as a Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant.

Since its inception in 1985, the Calais Lioness Club has been a vital part of the community with its members working to enhance the area and assist others in need.  The members of the club work hard at their various fundraisers and, in total, nearly $10,000 is donated annually to local individuals.  And, just last weekend, the ladies were out selling 50/50 tickets at the All Together Community BBQ.
