The tight-knit community of Perry rallied together in a time of tragedy, showcasing their strength and generosity after the tragic loss of one of their own.

On Monday, May 20, Jeff Stanhope lost his life in a devastating accident on South Meadow Road.  His passing occurred as the town's road crew worked on replacing a culvert and a sudden ditch collapse took place.

provides exemplary service in support of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) that has had a measurable impact on two or more troops in one or more geographic areas.

Family of Seven Displaced after Fire

A structure fire that erupted on Monday afternoon, May 27, at a South Street residence in Calais has been deemed as accidental, according to State Fire Marshal officials, Calais Fire Chief Bill Lee reported.

The blaze left a family of seven homeless.  “The house is not liveable currently,” Chief Lee stated.

Tragically, the family, which includes five children, lost all their belongings and two cats in the fire.

It isn’t every day one of the world’s best childhood golfers comes to Downeast Maine, but last week, junior high students from area elementary schools packed into gyms across Washington County as part of a speaker series organized by Down East and Calais Community hospitals to hear Kyle Quilausing tell of how a ten-year-old phenom battling Tiger Woods at the top of the world junior golf rankings spiraled out of control and became “a menace to his homeland.”

Veterans Honored, Remembered During Calais Memorial Day

Calais paid tribute to fallen heroes on Memorial Day with a series of solemn ceremonies, beginning at Ferry Point Bridge.

A small crowd, including active duty service members, veterans, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, and Calais Fire-EMS personnel, gathered downtown at the international bridge for the annual wreath-laying event.
