McDonald’s Hosts Annual Christmas Party

On Wednesday, December 18th, McDonald’s in Calais held a Christmas party for the local children of Washington County. Cookie decorating, coloring pages, games, hot chocolate, Christmas ornament decorating, and more were all available throughout the night.

On Wednesday, December 18th, members of the National Honor Society from Woodland Jr-Sr High School spent time spreading holiday cheer.

They started off their day by placing wreaths at Memorial Park, then baked cookies for the elderly in the area and delivered them all.

Barbara’s International School of Dance Christmas Benefit Show

Barbara’s International School of Dance recently held the Christmas Benefit Show at Calais High School. The proceeds were used to purchase the pictured toys and were donated to the Calais Elementary School to be distributed to children who would otherwise go without. CHS National Honor Society Food Drive

Over the first two weeks of December the Calais High School National Honor Society held a food drive at the school. The group collected over 900 nonperishable food items for the Irene Chadbourne Ecumenical Food Pantry. First Responders, Road Crews Kept Busy with Friday’s Precipitation

Much of the state saw mixed precipitation last Friday, which consisted of rain, snow, and sleet, along with temperatures hovering around freezing.  Road conditions were extra slippery, with numerous motor vehicle accidents reported.

In Calais, around 11 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle accident on River Road.

Princeton Gains New Animal Control Officer

On December 11th, the Town of Princeton made a public announcement on its Facebook page. The town needed an animal control officer immediately. While the search was going on, it was asked that any Princeton resident who was having an issue with a dog or cat call the town office.

Shortly after, on December 17th, Stephen Seavey was voted Princeton’s new animal control officer.

COIG, Celtic Group Donates to Food Pantry

Calais Celtic Concerts, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus #149, collected $375 for the Irene Chadbourne Ecumenical Food Pantry at its Dec. 21st Celtic Christmas show at Calais High School that featured Coig from Cape Breton, N.S.  At each of their stops, Coig donated food and money for food pantries and fuel assistance programs. At their Farmington concert, the fuel collection qualified for a $5,000 matching grant.

Calais Celtic Concerts wishes to thank its loyal audience members and Coig for their generosity this Christmas season.
