An important note from the Irene Chadbourne Ecumenical Food Pantry: our local food pantry is in need of egg cartons.  The price to purchase new cartons has increased significantly, so any help from community members is greatly appreciated.  Cartons can be dropped off on Mondays, 3 - 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m. - noon; and Fridays, 1 - 3 p.m.

Congratulations to the parade float winners from the International Homecoming Festival.  Sunrise Eye Care was awarded Best Theme, Calais Fire/EMS was recognized for Best Display of Community Spirit, and Barbara’s School of Dance won Best Overall.

Don’t forget to get to the country club before the end of the month for the silent auction to benefit The Blue Devil Fund.  There are many, many items up for bid, including sports and entertainment memorabilia.

Youth soccer is starting soon in Calais.  This program starts with kindergarteners and goes up to those in grade six.  Clinics are every Saturday starting August 31 through October 26.  Kids can register at Calais Elementary School on August 27 during the open house at the school from 4 to 6 p.m., or on August 31, the first day of soccer. Learn more on Facebook at Calais Rec. Soccer, or visit calaismaine.org to find the registration form under the Parks and Recreation tab.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
