Music on the Green at Flat Iron Park continues each Tuesday evening throughout the summer, offering free live entertainment in downtown Calais. The next concert, set for Tuesday, July 22, will feature Shane Sawtell, performing blues, country, and rock, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This performance is sponsored by Jo’s Diner & Pizzeria, Dead River, and Peter Jensen, Esq. For updates on the concert series, follow CDRC - Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition on Facebook.

Flat Iron Park will again have music — along with fellowship — this Saturday, July 19, with Gospel on the Green. It begins at 6 p.m. and will feature worship led by the Calvary Chapel Praise Team, special music by members of Second Baptist Church, and an uplifting message shared by Bill Bristol. All are welcome to gather, sing, and celebrate faith in this free, community-centered outdoor event.

Join local naturalists for a guided nature walk through the Wildlife Refuge and experience the beauty of summer this Saturday, July 19, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Seasonal plants and wildlife along the trail will be discovered, and binoculars will be available to borrow. Be sure to dress appropriately to protect against ticks. The walk will be canceled if it rains. Meet in the upper parking lot near the bathrooms. For more details, contact Bill at 207-904-7023. This event is brought to you by Friends of Moosehorn, Fundy Audubon, and the Maine Master Naturalist program.

Another reminder for Vibe Fitness Studio’s second anniversary event planned for this Sunday, July 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Flat Iron Park. All women are invited to the celebration with a free outdoor group fitness class open to all ages and fitness levels. Whether you’re a longtime member or just curious about the hype, this high-energy workout promises fun music, sweat-worthy moves, and a welcoming community of strong, supportive women. Bring your friends, family, and anyone ready to move. No membership or experience required.

The St. Croix Idol singing competition continues every Monday at Flat Iron Park in the weeks leading up to the International Homecoming Festival. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the show, which starts at 6 p.m. The recent performances have showcased incredible vocal talent, with qualified judges offering great feedback to each contestant. The organizers are also selling 50/50 raffle tickets at each show, so bring a few dollars for a chance.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 26, for an indoor yard sale at All Saints United Methodist Church (formerly Calais United Methodist Church), at 849 Main Street. The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Calais Rec. has announced that the 46th annual Johnson’s International Five-Mile Road Race is set for Saturday, August 9. This takes place at 9 a.m. from Memorial Park. Because of border security, no registrations can be accepted after 8 a.m. on the day of the race. All runners must bring passports or passport cards for identification purposes. Grab all the details at calaismaine.org/departments/parks-and-recreation/.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
